Have you ever lost control and spoken unkind words to another? Has someone made you mad; you just blew up like a volcano full of words that cut to the bone. Do you speak with love or out of anger?
James 3:6: says: (NASB) And the tongue is a fire, the very world of iniquity; the tongue is set among our members as that which defiles the entire body, and sets on fire the course of our life, and is set on fire by hell.
Well, I have and did. The harsh words I had spoken; could not be changed. We are not able to take back what was said. I could see the pain on their face as I spoke without thinking. I allowed my emotions to get the best of me. There is a saying; hurt people hurt people. When you have experienced hurt by others in your life and never healed, you take that pain and inflict it on someone else.
Words are so powerful. More powerful than you know. Remember that death and life are in the power of the tongue. Proverbs 18:21 ESV. We need to choose our words with care.
Proverbs 16:24 NIV reminds us, Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. The apostle Paul says; let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone. Speak to others as you want others to speak to you.
As salt adds flavor to our food, grace flavors our words for building up others. The metaphor salt refers to the preservation of the message of Christ, helping to reach many people as possible effectively. Colossians 4:6 NIV Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Whenever we need help with our words, we can ask for help. Through the the Holy Spirit, our small fire, in essence, is truly a Big Fire. Remember, words are Powerful! Choose them wisely.
