The Best Investment is Seeking God First

Do you seek God first in all you do?

Jesus said in Matthew 6, “Seek first the kingdom of God.” The word “seek” is a strong word. One definition is” to require as a vital necessity.” This means we should be pursuing God above all else.

Hannah was a courageous woman who sought God. She was battling infertility. She longed for a son. One day she went to the Temple. She prayed; “Lord of Armies, if you will take notice of your servant’s affliction, remember and not forget me, and give your servant a son, him to the Lord all the days of his life, and his hair will never be cut.” 1 Samuel 1:11 CSB

As Hannah was praying the priest Eli, thought she was drunk. She said; “I am a woman with a broken heart. I haven’t had any wine or beer; I’ve been pouring out my heart before the Lord.” 1 Samuel 1:15 CSB

Spending time with God is so equally important. Jesus said; “I am the bread of life.” John 6:48. When things get busy, the kids need you, it’s hectic at the office, or you’ve got a thousand things to do, you’ve got to put your foot down and say, “No, this is not an option.” If I’m going to be my best today, if I’m going to have God’s favor, I’ve got to rearrange my priorities so that I can spend time with God.

Moreover, you may have to get up earlier – before the kids need you, before checking your emails, sending text messages or before the phone starts ringing. Take time to invest in your spiritual well being. Furthermore, we feed our physical body at least three meals a day, but we often feed our spirit only once a week at church. We wonder why we feel burned out, unenthusiastic and lack favor, wisdom, and creativity. It’s because we’re not taking time to refill our spiritual body. Just like we feed our physical body, we need to refuel our spiritual body. Lastly, when you invest in your spiritual well being, it pays enormous dividends in your life.

Prayer: Father, today, I choose to put you. First. I acknowledge that without you, I can do nothing. I invite you to have your way in my life as I seek you first in all that I do, in Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.
